Make sure you are Mum’s favourite this Mother’s Day (Sunday 30th March!) by treating her to something really special – (of course by reading this article you’ll already be winning against your siblings!).

Forget taking her out for an overpriced meal in a busy restaurant – why not treat her to a simple but sophisticated afternoon tea party?

Going to the effort of creating something special will enable you to thank your Mum for everything she’s done for you; whilst giving her the opportunity to relax and indulge in delicious cakes, hot soothing tea and bubbly champagne!

For a classic afternoon tea party, serve separate layers of neatly cut sandwiches, pretty cupcakes and cream & jam laden scones - displayed attractively on a cake stand from drinkstuff.

When it comes to drinks, it is customary to serve English Breakfast tea, but perhaps serve a selection – especially if you are extending the invite to other family members. Other popular options include Earl Grey, camomile, herbal, peppermint and fruit.

Being able to spoil your mum is a great excuse to pop open a bottle of champagne and indulge in some luxurious bubbles! If you fancy being a bit more adventurous than just serving a glass of champagne on its own, experiment with some champagne cocktails – such as this refreshing recipe for Green Tea Champagne.

To decorate, brighten up the setting with some beautiful flowers displayed in one of our stylish vases. With the handmade option being the best way to impress Mum, consider also making your own bunting to adorn the walls and edges of tables, using these instructions from www.glorioustreats.com.

Raise a toast to your well-deserving Mum this Mother’s Day – with all of this thoughtful effort she should certainly appreciate your attempts to make her feel special!

Barmans raise money for Sport Relief 2014!

support sport relief

In aid of Sport Relief 2014, staff at drinkstuff HQ participated in various activities over the week of 17th – 21st March to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause.

During the entire week, staff baked cakes to sell – benefiting not only the charities involved, but also our constant need for cake to get us through the working day!

On the Friday we entered into an official Sport Relief sweepstake, with Paul Harrison winning for his guess of Pixie Lott being the sweatiest celebrity (who knew!), and raising £30 for the cause.

We were also sponsored to wear sporty clothing for the day, with some turning up in the football kit of a local football team sponsored by drinkstuff - (we’re pretty sure just dressing in sportswear cancels out the calories from all those cakes, right?!)

In total we raised £160, and hope that this will go a long way in benefiting the lives of vulnerable people in the UK and abroad.

A massive thank you to everyone involved – here’s to next year and raising even more money!

Al Capone’s Cocktail Shaker Sold At Auction

A cocktail shaker once owned by gangster Al Capone was sold earlier this month, along with the rest of a collection that belonged to wealthy American dealer – the late Stanley Seeger.

The temptation of the prestigious items; including Lord Nelson’s teapot and a jug from the Titanic; resulted in a record breaking sale at Sotheby’s auction house in London, raising £7.3 million.

Al Capone’s cocktail shaker sold for 50 times more than expected, with the hammer coming down at £50,000.

The shaker was originally given to Capone as a Christmas present by his associates, and was engraved with the words: ‘To a “REGULAR GUY” From THE BOYS 1932’.

When Stanley Seeger later owned the shaker, it was used to serve up Bloody Mary cocktails to his guests. Seeger lived a quiet life in Sandsend and passed away in 2011 at the age of 81.

St. Patrick’s Day

happy st patricks day shamrock

St Patrick’s Day is fast approaching so it’s time to start thinking about celebrating all things Irish!

In honour of St Patrick who died on March 17th, 461 A.D., celebrations will take place all over Ireland; and have also become popular in other areas of the world including the US and in England.

Despite dressing up as leprechauns, donning green face paint and decorating every available space with shamrocks being synonymous with all things St Patrick’s Day, you don’t have to be a huge fan of drinking a pint of the black (or green!) stuff – there are many other Irish themed beverages to indulge in, including creative cocktails such as an Irish Martini or Everybody’s Irish.

Creating delicious drinks for St Patrick’s Day!
