Aeration

Glossary of Terms

Aeration, also known as aerification, is a process where air is circulated through, mixed with or dissolved in a liquid or substance. Aeration is most commonly used for liquids such as water, and is also used in wine tasting to bring out the aromas of the wine. This is done by swirling the wine in the glass, using a decanter to increase the exposure to air or by using a specialised wine aerator.
