Dry

Glossary of Terms

Dry is a term usually used to describe wine, cocktails or spirits which aren't sweet in taste. An example of this is the dry martini cocktail, which is made from dry vermouth rather than sweet vermouth. This dry taste occurs during fermentation when the yeast consumes almost all the sugar and converts it to alcohol.
