Irish Whiskey

Glossary of Terms

Irish Whiskey is whiskey made in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. It is produced from a blend of fermented grain, malted and unmalted barley, which is triple distilled and aged in wooden casks for at least three years. Irish whiskey differs from Scotch whisky as the barley is roasted over coal or gas to produce a clear barley flavour and smooth finish. Blended Irish Whiskey is most common and is produced from pot still, grain and malt whiskey. Popular Irish whiskeys include Jameson and Bushmills.
