Julep

Glossary of Terms

A julep is a type of cocktail made with a spirit, herbs, water and sometimes bitters. The word julep is derived from the Arabic term for rose water and was originally used by pharmacists to denote sweetened liquid medicines. While there are several variations of the julep, the most popular today is the Mint Julep made with bourbon, sugar, mint leaves and water which is made by muddling the ingredients in a mixing glass, straining and serving with ice and filling with water.
