A martini is a type of cocktail which contains gin and vermouth and is garnished with an olive or lemon twist. It is served in a martini glass, which is a small capacity stemmed glass with a flared bowl. There are various legends on how the martini originated, but it became very popular during the prohibition era in America. Variants of the Classic Martini include the Dry Martini, Perfect Martini, Dirty Martini and Gibson.
