Glossary of Terms
A stein is a type of handled beer mug, sometimes with a lid, traditionally made from stoneware, porcelain or pewter, but now more commonly made from glass. The word stein derives from the German word Steingut meaning stoneware, the material most commonly used traditionally. A stein is used for serving beer and ale, usually with a volume of 0.5 to 1 litre, and is popular at beer festivals.
