Glossary of Terms

A syrup is a thick, viscous liquid which is often made from a base of sugar and water. A syrup is often used in cocktail making to help balance the tartness of the drink. Popular beverage syrups are simple syrup (a basic sugar and water syrup), flavoured syrup (simple syrup with flavouring) and gomme syrup (a sugar and water mixture with added emulsifier).
