"As most of the drugs are in liquid form a straw does not offer protection in any type of drink. The drugs are added either by Eye Dropper - Jif Lemon Squeegee or Decongestant spray allowing the drug to go down the straw or down the side making the drug more dangerous as the recipient gets the drug neat which can be fatal.
Drinkstuff says: It is difficult to introduce a substance into a straw surreptitiously and also the straws are normally bent when in use. It had been thought about in the design stage that if a criminal did manage to get a substance into a straw it would make the straw taste bad immediately. Also we know from statistics that the majority of drink spiking is done by adding alcohol to a soft drink, or more alcohol to an Alco pop type drink. By using Spikey, this criminal activity is made virtually impossible.

"It's a frightening situation ending up in A&E, knowing full well that you're the victim of some mindless idiot - and having the normally sympathetic nursing staff think you've 'just had one too many'.
This has got to be the best idea yet, especially when one considers that alternative.
