A bar mat, also known as a drinks coaster, is used for resting glassware to help prevent stains and condensation marks on tabletops and bars. Many pub beer mats are made from cardboard and are usually branded by a brewery and given away free as a form of advertising. In bars cocktail napkins are also commonly used as a drinks coaster.
