Decanter
Glossary of Terms
A decanter comes in a variety of shapes in two main varieties; a wine decanter (similar to a carafe) and a spirit decanter. A wine decanter is primarily used for red wine and usually holds a 75cl bottle of wine comfortably. Traditionally wine decanters were used to separate the sediment in wine, but nowadays are more commonly used for aeration purposes. A spirit decanter will typically be narrower in shape with a stopper and are often used for storage of whisky, brandy or cognac.
