A tankard is a type of handled, cylindrical beer mug, but smaller than a stein with a typical volume of 10oz to 20oz. Tankards are usually made from silver, pewter or glass and may feature a hinged lid or a glass bottom (if made from metal). Although tankards date back over 2000 years, glass tankards are still a popular vessel in which to serve beer and ale.
