A CE mark is a mandatory conformity mark used within the European Union to state that the manufacturer has ensured the product conforms to the requirements of applicable European Conformity directives. CE mark is commonly used in measuring devices and glassware to state it conforms to the measure stated on the glass. UK licensing laws state that certain alcoholic beverages must be served using a CE marked measure when sold in units of less than a bottle. CE marking has mostly replaced government stamped glassware marking in the UK since 2007.
Since Brexit the UK has introduced the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking. The government has introduced legislation that continues to recognise the current EU requirements, including CE Marks. This means that businesses have the flexibility to use either the UKCA or CE marking when serving alcohol.
In English, CE stands for European Conformity, deriving from the French Conformité Européenne (CE).
UKCA stands for United Kingdom Conformity Assessment.
