The Margarita cocktail is growing in popularity. Week by week, it's steadily gathering new cult followers who fall in love with, not only the taste, but also what it represents. Fun, good times and memories with friends.
And what goes hand in hand with the Margarita, is the infamous Salt Rim. Many of us hate the Salt Rim, and yet we still want it on our glass when we order a Marg. Kind of like a badge of honour!
For decades we've been used to just normal small grains of Table Salt on our glasses. As times changed, this changed into chunky (or "Rustic") Rock Salt or Sea Salt. In more recent years, Chilli Salt or Tajin Powder. But now we can take that a step further.
Frona currently has a collection of 20 Fruit Powders in their range. And I've been steadily playing with these over the past few months.
18 of them are actually sugar based, with the Chilli and Tomato both Salt based. But just because the Pineapple, for example, is Sugar based, that doesn't mean you can't use it on a Margarita. However, you probably don't want that Sweet Powder on your lips while drinking the Margarita.
Combining these Powders with your existing Salt to create flavour combos. And they work incredibly well.
Just some of the recent combinations I've played with, is combining Frona Pineapple Rimmer, with Frona Chilli and some extra Salt. Not only does it taste fantastic on a Pineapple Margarita, it actually looks visually stunning too!
Another combination I really loved was when I created a Blackberry Margarita. For the Rim, I then combined Frona Mixed Berry Powder, Chilli Powder and some extra Salt. Again, it looked and tasted immense!
There is really no limit to the combinations you can use on your Drinks. Even if we're not talking about the Margarita You can swap out the Salt for Sugar for the fun Disco Drinks. Combine Passion Fruit Powder with Orange Powder and some extra Sugar and add something extra to your Pornstar Martinis.
I've even started doing something a little crazy on Mojitos. Taking a fruit flavour, some extra sugar but adding in some Dried Mint! This really does make your Mojito stand out!
We'd love to see your creations. Don't forget to tag Frona (@Frona_Horeca) and Drinkstuff in your photos on Instagram.
